As I settle into my first year as principal—and my first experience in an elementary setting—I find myself in constant awe of the incredible work happening around me every day. Coming from a secondary background, I have a unique perspective on how learning evolves over time, and I love helping students and teachers connect today’s lessons to the skills they’ll need down the road. One thing that has struck me most is the sheer expertise of elementary teachers. Not only do they have a deep understanding of curriculum, but they are also guiding students through so many "firsts"—first time holding a pencil correctly, first time reading a book independently, first time solving a math problem, first time navigating friendships.
